Who is mirth.MUA?

My name is Lauren, I am 28-years-old. From the moment I knew God gave me the gift of creativity in the form of brushes and cosmetics. I found my passion for makeup at the age of 13.

It all began with my aunt who had a salon growing up. She has influenced in the beginning stages of what beauty can transform into. I then begged my mom to buy me MAC Cosmetics makeup for my 13th birthday. I vividly remember choosing my first foundation powder in Studio Fix powder in NC45, a mulch eye shadow, and a iridescent lip glass. From then, I started playing with makeup and posting it on my Myspace page showing all my 'Top 8' friends my eye shadow, I clearly just applied with my fingertips and thought it was photo comment-worthy.

Once I became a junior in high school, YouTube was just starting to become popular. I discovered a Coastal Scents palette review video and I had to get my hands on it. I then placed an order and started to do some looks from @Makeupbyrenren and Michelle Phan. I even began by matching my eye shadow with my outfits. *literally laughing out loud

I realized this is when I really wanted to start building my love for cosmetics and started to do makeup on my friends and family for fun. I had my first paid gig in my freshman year of college, my friend was getting married and asked if I could do her makeup. I agreed, and even took photos of the look for memories.

When I turned 21, I applied to work at Sephora for a seasonal position, after being let go from a pool server job - I could not remember anyone's seating or orders for the life of me, plus balancing a tray of food and drinks- call it a balancing-act. This is what drove me to start my journey of working in the beauty industry while still going to college for Business Management, at the time. I knew I eventually wanted to start getting my feet wet in the industry because I want my own makeup line. Even though I started as a cashier, it gave me a foundation to learn from a top leading beauty organization who was part of LVMH [Louis Vuitton, Moet, Hennesy], which are all honorable brands. I learned how to communicate with all types of clients but still wanted to expand my horizons into the color world. Due to my school schedule getting in the way, I had to part ways.

As I was finishing my degree in Journalism and Media Studies with a minor in Marketing. It was my last year of college, and I had a sorority sister tell me she knew someone who works for MAC Cosmetics, and I had met an artist prior who showed me a few tips and tricks and even invited me to a makeup class, which truly made me believe things happen in a full circle. I asked my sorority sister if she can connect me with her friend and see if they had any opening positions as a makeup artist. Low-and-behold they were doing a casting call within a few weeks. MAC Pro in Las Vegas was at Caesars Palace, at the time, I remember seeing a line out the door and I arrived 15 minutes early from the interview time. I wore all black and a bold lip in MAC's Heroine and showed up with a resume in hand. I connected so well with the interviewer she even complimented my lipstick at the end of the interview when she told me I received the green light for my second interview. I then brought my model and unbeknownst to me, they switch your models as they say "You never know who comes and sits in your chair." So this prepared me to always be on your toes and whatever gets thrown at you, just ride the wave. I ended up landing a freelance makeup artist position.

I am a firm believer in law-of-attraction and vision boards. My freshman year of college, I had a introduction to business class and our professor had us create a vision board as he truly believed that it is very important to keep your dreams and goals in front of you at all times. I so then kept my vision board, build and edit over time. I share this with you as I knew I always wanted to work for MAC Cosmetics. I asked for a job application, twice, and I would chicken out on sending it in and one-time I asked for a card, so I wrote my name on it and posted it on my vision board. When it finally came into fruition, I knew it was something God aligned to be on my path. I worked for MAC for 6-years and met the most amazing people, learned a lot from my trials-and-errors to finding my signature look in makeup and of course, create great friendships.

It has been a 10-year journey as a freelance makeup artist. I have learned throughout the years that it takes 10,000 hours to be successful in the field you are in. I still learn and evolve to grow each and every day on honing on the skills of my craft. There are still errors, but it is never perfection, and that is okay. You get back up, wipe it off with a makeup wipe and start all over on that face. From being inspired to create a makeup look, to meeting celebrities and people from all over the world by connecting face-to-face, *literally. You share your gift with them by exuding and define their beauty, just with a touch of a few brushes and a little bit of makeup.

What does #mirth.MUA mean?

mirth : happiness through laughter

mua : makeup artist

As I was thinking of a 'brand name' to call myself, I came to the conclusion that I love to laugh and I would like to incorporate how I feel when I laugh and make others feel the same way through what I truly am passionate about when I am doing makeup. I came across the name in the bible one late night with a friend helping me with figuring out a name. I also was inspired by MAC's "Magic, Mirth, and Mischief" Collection, so let's just say it was God-aligned from the start.

What truly makes a #mirthdoll?

I believe in transforming beauty from the inside, out. From our initial interaction from hello to knowing a few fun facts about yourself!

I ask the following questions:

What's the occasion?

What are you wearing?

What is your desired look?

What is your skin type?

I take all of these answers into consideration when planning the look and listening to what a client wants. I also believe in the conversations, with a few laughs, of course! we have throughout the makeup session is very viable information through the process of transforming into becoming a beautifully enhanced version of yourself, but I truly believe that all starts with how you feel on the inside, #mirthdoll.

From yours truly,

mirth.MUA

Transforming beauty from the inside out.
